As the electrode extends towards the sections to fuse together, an extensive measuring process begins to determine the overall thickness of the steel.  The CTR12000 records the total thickness of the metal within thousandths of a second.

As the current begins to flow it recognizes and will determine whether any of the construction components are made up of high strength or ultra high strength steel.
